This Project is Currently In Motion

Building on the original dance documentation project at Lamayuru Monastery in Ladakh,
Core of Culture is undertaking a rapid inventory of Cham dance
at all 50 monasteries in the Ladakh-Zanskar region of Northern India,
a region boasting one of the oldest and most diverse ecologies of Buddhist Cham  anywhere.
Using ethnographic and surveying methods developed over a decade's work,
the basic information regarding Cham at each monastery will be collected to allow for
the first comprehensive documentation and preservation project to be planned.

The work is being conducted by His Eminence Rigyal Rinpoche, 28, who has worked with Core of Culture in Ladakh and London.
He will complete the rapid inventory in late September.
The results will be compiled, analyzed, and become part of a project proposal to museums
as well as a public exhibition to tour in the West and beyond.

All the archival material produced will enter the collection of the Dance Division of the New York Public Library at Lincoln Center in New York City.
